LG GSA-4166B DVD burner

My LG GSA-4166B DVD burner has an interesting issue. It's about a year and a half old, hardly ever used, and suddenly won't read commercially pressed DVD's, Or my RAM disks (which I recorded on this about 6 months ago). Whenever I put a DVD in, and executing power DVD, it thinks for several seconds, then states "A disk with an unsupported format in drive f:". The twist is, it will read my burned movie DVD's and my CD's. I ran a lens cleaner in it, uninstalled and reinstalled the driver and software. The firmware is up to date. The drive is set as the secondary master. Also, I switched the data cable to an 80 conductor. (didn't matter, it ran fine before with a 40 conductor. don't want to leave a stone unturned). Why do I keep thinking this is a software issue? I have read in other forums of people having the same issue, but never saw a resolution. I have sent LG a description of my problem, but who knows if I will hear from them. Any Ideas fellow Geeks? This problem really bites! Doug

 

You are welcome to try my registry files listed in the CD/DVD tutorial listed on my tutorial blog, but understand it breaks all third party CD/DVD burning software. In the event a driver is causing problems, that will clear it up. If not...its probably not a software issue.

 

Thanks Adrynalyne, I'll give anything a try at this point. It's really frustating why it would read my burned movies, but not commercial ones, nor my burned RAM disks. Mybe it's corrupt firmware. That's scary! :confused
