Hi .. firstly I checked existing posts but this seems to be a new problem.

WinXP SP3. with Avast set to automatically update.

My PC was taking 2-3 minutes to boot with the hard drive running continuously. I used MSCONFIG to take a look to see if there was anything obvious in Start up. I didn't change anything and backed out. I then got a "Not Responding" message on MSCONFIG. I cleared it and rebooted.

Ever since virtually all services have been disabled. Using services.msc and clicking on a disabled serve all Start|Stop|Pause|Resume|Restart options are greyed out.

I am logged in as Administrator.

The only services started (showing as automatic) are:
    DCOMN Server Process Launcher
    Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
    System Restore Service

Three services are shown as 'manual'
    CrypotographicServices
    DNS Client
    Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator

The first two will start manually but the RPC gives an Error 1068

All system restore points have been removed - the only one showing is at the start up this morning.

I have run a full system scan with AVAST and it has not detected any virus.

Not sure where to go now ..... does this sound like a corrupt registry and if so, any ideas about how to fix it?

    Any help appreciated.

    Regards
