Wireless Network Connection

I've installed a wireless usb adapter and although I'm getting online, the toolbar at the bottom shows 'Not Connected'. I've checked and re-checked that the drivers for it are updated and they are (Windows say that they can't find any better ones than the ones I already have).

Why is it showing this - not connected? Even the box next to it on the toolbar says 'Wireless Net Status: Disconnected'.

After reading other peoples problems with this kind of thing, I'm wondering how I'm actually getting online?????

    Any ideas guys? :confused

Wanted to also say - on Network Connections, it says that the Wireless Network Connection is not connected. When you right click it, it only gives the option to 'Disable' - the 'Connect' doesn't show?

Maybe you're connecting using the wireless adapter's own software?

I also don't understand unless you are connected to the network via LAN and bypassing the wireless.

What happens when you right click the wireless icon ???

When I right click the icons it says 'Change Window Firewall Settings', 'Open Network Connections', 'Repair' and 'View Available Wireless Connections'.

I did try the 'Open Network Connections' once, and it seemed to do the trick, but then a few minutes later, it all went back to having a red cross thru it.

Maybe the baked bean tin we use out here for connection in the sticks is working harder than the wireless connection???:-D

Click 'Repair' and 'View Available Wireless Connections' and see if it can sort itself out, it should give you a list of networks if there are more routers near your home.

Select your router and click on "connect

Done Repair and it says it cannot finish the following as the following action could not be completed: Connecting to the wireless network.

When I click view networks it says Windows cannot configure this wireless connection.

    ÖK back to basics
IF you can connect your router directly to the PC with the Ethernet cable that came in the pack and if you have a disk for the router insert it.
Set up the router following the instructions.

I found this while i was thinking your problem through,it may help you sort it out.

Am I best uninstalling it then cos it's saying that this programme lets you modify the current installation - then start from scratch again?

I didn't expect any reply to my thread for a few hours! Apologies, I didn't see the link on your previous thread - just had a quick look and it says to allow an hour for going thru this, so I'll try that one later.
For now, I'll try the Repair option and see if that does anything. I have to go out in a little while, so I don't want to get half way thru something and have to 'leave it'.

I'll get back later and let you know if anything is happening! Thousand thanks for your help so far!
