    Hi,

I printed out and followed the directions on the "read me first before asking for support: Basic spyware, trojan, and virus removal through item number 4. I read the instructions for option 5, but they are over my head a little and since I am working on a friend's computer, I don't want to goof it up.

One of the things I did was to run AboutBuster 5 times until it found nothing finally. However, when I rebooted the computer after the last run, I immediately received an "only the best" ad and upon entering a search in google I received a window on top of it with "searching the search engines" as the title.

I am sure you are bored with helping half-geeks like me, but I sure would appreciate any help you can give. I can offer a Hijackthis log and/or an AboutBuster log. Did I miss something in my steps that is obvious?

IF you have run through the tutorial PP or Chaslang would ask you to do the foloowing:

After doing ALL of the TUTORIAL if you still have a problem:

Make sure you have HijackThis 1.99 and follow the guidelines on where to install it and how to post a log as an attachment. This is all covered in the sticky thread NO HIJACK THIS LOG FILES BEFORE READING THIS: HJT Tutorial & LOG File Posting

Now post a HijackThis log as an attachment to your message (Do not post the log inline). All running programs should be closed, INCLUDING YOUR WEB BROWSER, e-mail. Close before running Hijack This!

To repeat: Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file. Place it in its own folder for example C:\Program Files\HJT

I wanted to say thanks for your email. I decided to jump in and learn more about HijackThis and I now use it often. I fixed my problem with that program along with a couple of others.

Sorry I didn't reply. After I fixed the machine, many personal tragedies occurred and I forgot to come back and post a "thank you!"

I use your site often and can find most anything I need. Thanks to you and the others that keep this running. Manon

    Your welcome

Glad you got it all fixed. You should check this out now: How to Protect yourself from malware!

If everything seems to be working OK then turn system restore back on.

I am sorry to hear about your tragedy. Hope everything works out for you.
