    Hi all,

I'm sorry to post what I'm sure is another thread on SpyQuake, but I haven't been able to find the info I'm looking for, well, because I'm an Idiot I'm sure. I recently managed to dl spyquake, and used the posted method for removing it from my drive. My homepage no longer gets hi-jacked, but I still have the flashing icon in the systray and that stupid message keeps poping up. I read on another site that someone managed to use the regkey to find the problem and fix it, and I'm completely hopeless because I have no idea how to do any of that. I was just wondering if anyone had a clue how to take care of this problem, through the regkey or another back door approach. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    -BaM

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Please attach the smitfiles.txt log that is requested in the SpywareQuake Removal procedure and then continue on to the below!

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:

      • [*]runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
        [*]newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

I had problems following the exact instructions you laid out in the SpyQuake removal steps because I couldn't un-install any of the programs, whether going through add/remove programs or through conventional uninstall. They were installed under I do believe a IctCodec pac, and when I tried to uninstall SpyQuake or any of the 4 programs running, it'd tell me that I had to restart my computer before it could uninstall. Because of that I had to do a manual delete instead of uninstall, and so I believe that's why I'm left with the registry entrys. None of the files that were listed as possibly being in C:\Windows\System32 (if that's wrong i apologize), and none of the other folders of files listed at the bottom of the instructions were found. When I ran the program that went through and deleted old files (the program used inbetween renaming all the fake .dll files to .DDD), there was no list found in the directory like it said there were in the instructions. I've tried searching through the registry for any sign of SpyQuake, but my problem still persists. I'm sorry if I'm wasting all of your time writing this out, it's just that I just got my first new computer in 8 years and I can't believe that I've got some stupid popup that I can't get rid of. In either case, once again, thank you for your time.

Are you saying you cannot find the smitfiles.txt log? If you have it, please attach.

I still need you to run the other instructions I gave you.
