Okay, here's what happened, I went back to my parents house for Halloween weekend. They asked me to fix their computer because it was running so slow. Since my brother uses goes on the internet almost everyday, i knew it was spyware.

I came across this site, read up and then tried to clean up. I ran ad-aware with all the extra plugins and with the current definitions update...found about 2500 files. Deleted all and it still didnt seem fixed...

I downloaded Hijackthis had it analyzed by that site, took out everything that it said was "nasty" and I also read the HJT tutorial and checked off everything i didn't know...still wasn't right but computer was still up and running.

So now I did an online virus check at symantec, found 16 viruses. I installed a trial version of mcafee to try to remove the virsuses, in the process of installation, it restarted. Computer would boot up, I'd pick a user, and it reboot right away. Over and over again. I went into safe mode and unchecked the "automatically restart" under system failure.

So now it boots back up to where I have to pick a user profile, and after I do...I get a bluescreen with a windows stop message. Under Technical information it says:
    **** STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x0000003, 0x822DEB28, 0x822DEC9C, (0x805FA7a8)

I went back into safe mode saw that mcafee was installed and so I did a system scan. Found 140 infected files! Cleaned up, tried to reboot, still getting the stop message. Installed a copy of Windows XP Pro SP2 (from windows xp home edition) and I still get the Stop message. I've tried to restore things from HJT but not all, not the ones with porno sites and unknown IPs.

So now im stuck, is there anything I can do? Can I fix this without having to do a format? Plllleassee help.

The specs on the computer are Compaq P4 1.8GHz Windows XP pro SP2 (was home edition) with 80GB hard drive. I can get on to safe mode...

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Well, thanks to MS's "New Style" support center, searching for that stop code gives me a load of irrelevant stop errors instead

Deleting registry entries with HJT can be a tricky thing. Also those automatic analyzers are not perfect. You really must be careful doing stuff like that. You should have followed our stick thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal from beginning to end in the order written. You did a variety of things but not like we requested.

You also said you installed XP SP2 in the middle of all of this. That was not a good thing to do. An upgrade to SP2 does not typcially go very smooth when problems already exist on a PC. What version and rev level were you running before?

You could try restoring things from HijackThis's backup assuming you had the proper version and installed it correctly. Also that assumes you did not delete any files manually. This may or may not work since you have also changed to XP SP2. Do you have a copy of the original HJT log you were working from?
