I Ran Trojan Hunter on My PC. Are these files trojans?

    Hi Everyone:

I downloaded and ran Trojan Hunter yesterday. The results were two possible trojan
    files found.

The names of these files are
    FL2001.EXE
    FL_2001.EXE

They are in a program called Quicken Family Lawyer. I'm wondering if they are not
trojans. I tried google to find out about these. It seems that FL2001 may be a legitimate file. The other file I could find no information on. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

    Computer information is
    Windows XP Home
    1.1 GHz Intel Celeron Processor
    128 MB SDRAM memory
40 GB ultra DMA hard drive
    Norton AV with current updates
Zone Alarm Free Version with current update
    Ad-Aware with current update
Spybot Search and Destory with current update

    Thanks so much!

That does seem a strange situation
I take it your Norton is not finding anything wrong with these
You could locate these files right click on them select properties and look at the date created and version etc see if theres anything that catches your eye
Are any of these running in task manager

The other alternative can you uninstall the app make sure both of these EXEs are gone with a manual check reboot and reinstall and check wether both are recreated

Checked files in Quicken Family Lawyer

    Hi General:

    Thanks for your response.

Nothing showing up from Norton AV regarding these files. I scan for viruses fairly often plus
have used a couple of the online virus scanners, Panda and Trend Micro. Nothing showing up.

I went into the program files of Quicken Family Lawyer, as you suggested and looked at the properties of these two files. The information is that they were installed in June 2001. This computer was a new computer around that time. Maybe everything is OK.

If they are both showing the same date etc then i would suggest its not a problem just the scanner being a bit wary of EXE files it doesnt Know

Still i would suggest following the link from Robo to be on the safe side ;)

    Thank you and another question

    Hi General:

Thanks so much for speaking with me about the possible trojan horse problem.

If you have the time, I would like to discuss with you and others about some strange
problems with my browser and Internet connection. This is the reason I first wrote you all
as I thought maybe I had a trojan on my system.

Some strange things happening recently with Internet and IE version 6 browser.
The first thing that happened is I am getting disconnected from the Internet.
I'm running high speed Internet with cable modem. Maybe I am incorrect, but it was
my understanding that using cable modem, you are always connected to the Internet?
A number of times recently, my sign in window has popped up, as I was viewing a webpage.
When I close it, I get disconnected from the Internet. Yesterday I thought to click a different button and clicked connect. My computer rebooted itself. I have turned on my computer to find Norton auto-protect disabled (not by me) and my Windows messenger
running. I had disabled it and in Zone Alarm had blocked it from accessing the Internet.
I run Ad-Aware quite often. I had run it about a week ago and it was pretty clean except for a few data miner type files. A couple of days ago I ran it and found one hundred problems.
About half in registry. Had Ad-aware fix all that. But the red flag in the Ad-Aware log was Browser Hijack Attempt. I've run Spy-Bot and it comes up pretty clean. Nothing drastic there.
Bottom line, I'm wondering if my browser has been hijacked.

    Hi Robo:

From your comment regarding Norton, sounds like I need to start investigating
and find another AV software program.

    Thanks for your note!

    Hi Robo

Thanks for your note about Norton AV.
After reading here on the website, I have downloaded Panda and AVG.
As of this moment I have not decided which to use and so far have not
installed anything. I did note that before installing, Norton's should be
    uninstalled.

I will look at the link you provided about Hijack-This Logs.

I appreciate all your help! Thank you very much.

    Hi jayeeff,

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

I would like to make a few suggestions to you.

First of all, it is best to start your own thread about your
computer problem. Adding on to another's thread may not
    get you noticed.

Secondly, unless your problem is specifically a
software problem it may be best to start a new
    thread in the Spyware Section.
Be as specific as possible about your computer problems.
Include what your operating system is on your computer.
It is very likely that a Computer Tech will advise you to look at the
"Sticky Note" which is near the top of the list of threads
in the Spyware Section which is titled "Read me first before asking for
support: Basic spyware, trojan and virus removal."

Thirdly, the Computer Techs here prefer that you do not
give them a Hijack This Log unless they ask for one.
They also prefer that the log is posted as an attachment.

I hope this information is helpful. Best of luck in solving
your computer problems and again welcome to Major Geeks.

    Maggie
