Hi and thanks in advance for any help that I may receive.

    Some background on my problem.

I booted the laptop yesterday and it was running slow so I decided to run Ccleaner. Admittedly I hadn't run it for quite some time so it was overdue anyway. I expected Ccleaner to help with things but halfway through the process it asked me to close Google Chrome, only chrome wasn't running. I then did ctrl+alt+del to bring up the task manager and in the running processes were several chrome.exe *32 processes. I assumed that Chrome was just being slow to close down, so I rebooted and this time didn't load chrome at all and just attempted to perform another clean with Ccleaner but the same thing happened so at that point I suspected a possible virus and turned to the READ ME AND RUN FIRST section which I have used successfully on other laptops in the past.

I followed the instructions, ran Rogue Killer and Malwarebytes but when I got to TDSS Killer it failed to open and the laptop by this point had gotten worse. After several unsuccessful attempts I eventually had to run TDSS Killer, Hitman Pro and MGTools all in safe mode.

Having completed all of the steps in the cleaning procedure as best I can, I am still experiencing problems with slow, sometimes unsuccessful boot and it also appears that some processes are being blocked. For example, on the function keys it seems that I am being blocked from turning up the brightness which is very strange, Chrome or IE are either being blocked from opening or painfully slow. I am now using the laptop to post this thread via safe mode with networking.

I have attached the logs. Unfortunately I didn't get the TDSS Killer log because it said there was no infection and didn't realise it was still necessary. I am also struggling to upload the Rogue Killer log because it is saying invalid file. The file in question has been saved as RKreport_SCN_07282015_205550.json

    Once again many thanks.

Rerun RogueKiller and when done, click on the far right button to export text. Save to your desktop and attach it to your next post.

Rerun Hitman and have it remove everything under Potentially Unwanted Programs.

Then please rerun MBAM and have it delete all it finds.

[IMG] Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

Reboot and rescan with Hitman and attach the new log.

    Thanks.

New hitman log is attached but unfortunately I'm still having problems. I'm still having to run in safe mode.

I am afraid your issues are not malware based. Your logs are clean. I suggest you post in the software forum for further assistance.

Since you are not having any malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now go to the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Thanks for your help.

After your advice I have now performed a system restore prior to the last windows update and all appears to be well again. :)
