Bad Adaware software/virus?

I have a computer running Vista and have had Adaware on it for many years. A few weeks ago when I tried to run the software, it prompted me to install a new version. This version seems like a virus, as it pops open on its own and asks me to purchase something. I have also had it open up and a voice plays a message. I cannot close it out of the tray, there is no option to exit. I think I may have installed a virus or something. Anyone have a similar experience?

If it were my computer, I'd use Revo Uninstaller to remove it and get a better program.
