Hi, I am using AOL UK V7.0 and Google search engine on my Gateway Solo 9300 laptop, Win98SE,288mb Ram,30gig HD. When using Google and clicking on various links I get a sound like a water drip. It happens usually when popups pop up but not always. It drives me bananas. Any bright ideas on how to get rid of it? Thanks in anticipation, Baz

Sounds like the noise the Google toolbar uses when blocking a popup.

You can turn it off in options.

Hit the SETTINGS button up in your AOL toolbar, Choose PREFERENCES, Select Pop-Ups. The default settings checked off are,,,,, block Pop-Ups from AOL, and Play sound. I highly recommend you uncheck the "play sound" box, and CHECK the Block Pop-Ups from Web Sites, as well as leaving the Block Pop-Ups from AOL.
    So a rundown............
Block Pop Ups from web sites (check)
    Play sound (uncheck)
Block Pop Ups from AOL (check)

    Dear Brian, :) :)

Thanks a lot. I will check it out.
I will now be able to check if it is AOL or Google or both that do it,

    Thanks again,

    Bazza

The sound you are hearing is coming from Pest Patrol. You can either uninstall it OR go to the Pest Patrol directory and delete the "cookiecrunch.wav" file.

fhester. Thanks for reactivating this old post after nearly 4 months. I know I did a search for all *.wav files and I thought I went through them all, one by one. Musta missed this one but I don't know how. Got the little b**tard:) :) . Played it to check it out. That's the one allright.
Renamed in to cookiecrunchwav.old. Now I can turn up my Volume Control again.
Thanks to Xflat for your suggestion as well. Isn't it stupid how little things can bug the hell out of us when we are not solely in command of our PC's. Bazza
