    ok, few questions...

Ive read a lot of posts here about firewalls, and can probably decide on that one, but

Ive read on bittorrent sites that unless you "make a hole" in your firewall, speeds can bottleneck. what can I do right off the bat to make it (dsl/firewall) work the best?

anything that would be helpful to know in advance? tips, tricks, tweaks...

also, what is you all's favorite bittorrent client? any other software suggestions?

    thanks

A good hardware firewall will do a pretty good job. Yes, you will have to set up port forwarding in the router or dsl modem via the https://192.168.1.1 interface. You should forward ports 6881-6889. Otherwise there will be errors and speed issues. You also may have trouble with NAT (network address translation). I am behind a completely firewalled router from my ISP and its not much fun. They will not allow me to port forward, so I suggest that if at all possible, port forward.

Actually thats a non standard address for a router. The standard linksys router address would be http://192.168.1.1 not https:. And any other router probably has a different address.

    Hi

We are moving and going to have to switch from cox high speed cable to probably yahoo dsl which is $19.95 a month through SBC.

I run my satellite laptop off Linksys.

Will dsl be able to handle the Linksys and the hard wired pc?

    Thanks
    Carl

Chances are you will be able to use that setup. The key is your dsl modem will probably have to be set in bridged mode. Send me a pm if you have any trouble setting up your dsl with your linksys. Include the modem of your linksys and the modem/type of dsl modem. Good Luck!
