Visual Studio .NET won't install??

When I try to install Microsoft Visual Studio .NET it says I need to update some windows components. I'm running Windows XP with SP1 already installed, and when I go to the windows update site there are no updates available, I've already updated everything. For some reason Visual Studio .NET thinks something is not up to date and it will not allow me to proceed with the installation. What gives?

The website it directs me to has Windows Service Pack 1a, but from my understanding there isn't much difference between sp1 and sp1a, and if I have installed all the current updates for sp1 then there is no need for me to download sp1a, correct?

Correct. Do not install sp1a over sp1. When I installed it, it automatically updated the components that needed updating.

    Weird.

Do you have .net framework 1.1 installed?

    That will be needed.

Well, I think I tried to install .NET before I got .NET framework from the windows update site, cause I thought that was what it wanted updated. But that wasn't it.. I'll try uninstalling it...

That didn't help, it still says I need to update some windows componets.

I think you have to insert the fourth cd or something and install that first. For more version from school it was the fourth cd yours may be different.

The fourth cd has no setup or autoexec files, so that's not it..

I'm guessing this isn't a common problem. Still haven't figured out what's wrong..

I think you figured it out, cause I found this "dotNetFx.txt" file..

Then I looked and IIS isn't even installed. I don't have my WinXP disk here so I can't install it right now, but I'll get it on the weekend and hopefully it'll all be okay.
