Missing Microsoft Kernel System Audio Device

Hello I have just been given an old PC that works really well except that I cant play any audio.

I tried downloading and reinstalling drivers but the real problem seems to be that question mark on the device manager that says 'Microsoft Kernel System Audio Device,Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)'.

Is there a simple way to fix this?

downloading the audio driver with ie - save it to C:\Users\name\Downloads - after that you have to go to destination path running exe file

reboot your machine when installation is completed :wave

 

Hi Thanks for that, It looked a bit too easy and so it was: I downloaded the audio setup and ran it, then The PC refused to boot windows, after a few trys I used 'System Restore' from Safe Mode, (luckily I created a restore point before I installed that driver).

Anything else to try?

That's the correct driver from quite a few threads I've looked over. If that doesn't give you audio then maybe the sound chip is gone.

 

I did try adding another audio card but got the same result, 'Missing Microsoft Kernel System Audio Device'. Is there any way around this?

What I would do if I encountered the situation:

• download and install DriverMax
• run DriverMax and see what it finds for that device

Use the free version that allows up to two driver downloads per day.

I have used DriverMax since v1, and it has proven to be pretty reliable to me.

P.S. ignore any other driver updates it suggests to you.
