    Hi,

I think my laptop has a keylogger or some kind of malware.

    Weird Windows behavior:

    - process WDC.exe appears in Task Manager. Cannot delete or stop process, cannnot "open file location"

    - passwords getting changed (gmail, Windows, FB)

    - internet service on the fritz (goes off and on, keep getting asked to "reset system password")

    - Windows Update, Defender, BITS not appearing in Services.msc, unable to update WinUpdate or Defender, can't switch to Update Automatically

    - purchased BitDefender Antivirus 2013, unable to install ("cannot download installation files")

    - Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool only functions in Safe Mode

    - Microsoft Security Essentials didn't help at all

I'm not exactly sure, but this problem seemed to appear:

    1) After I came home from a week's vacation (about a week ago). My brother used this laptop while I was away, but only for routine purposes

    or

    2) After downloading the new World of Warcraft updates (Blizzard Downloader tool), also about a week ago

I'm no computer whiz, but I've tried to follow forum posting/guidelines as closely as possible and use the recommended tools/logs as best I can.

Thanks a lot for your help!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!
It is just part of ASUS and you should not be touching it. Normal path is something like: C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\ATK Package\ATK Hotkey\WDC.EXE

Run RogueKiller and run a scan. After it finishes the scan, select the Registry tab and then select any of the below that exist and then click the Delete button.

Then select the Files tab and if the below exist, click the Delete button again.

    Then immediately reboot your PC.

After reboot, run a new scan with RogueKiller and save a log as in original instructions and attach the new log.

Now download the current version of MGtools and save it to your root folder. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Run MGtools.exe ( Note: If using Vista or Win7, make sure UAC is still disabled. Also don't double click on it, use right click and select Run As Administrator )

    Now attach the below log:
    • the new RogueKiller log
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Hi again, and thanks for your fast reply.

Here are the necessary logs. I think one of the AV programs cleaned out the bug.

    - Windows Update, Bits, Defender are all running in Services and seem to be working normally.

    - Windows updated to SP1 and installed a few other updates.

    - Bitdefender AV 2013 installed/updated and seems to be running perfectly. No more weird behavior in Windows, and no detected malware.

Let me know if you need anything else, and thanks again for all your help!

You need to empty your Recycle Bin.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. You can uninstall RogueKiller and HitManPro.
    2. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Hi,

All right, I've followed your instructions to the letter.

Everything went great. The system is clean, boot is swift, and a fresh restore point was created. I guess we can close the book on this minor catastrophe!

Thanks SO MUCH for all your help =))) My last semester of college just began a few days ago, and knowing my laptop is clean and functioning is SUCH a relief. I'm back in business!

    Thanks again!! =)

    Kind regards,
    Rob
