I have malware on my pc.

Hi.

No problems for over a year, but something has gotten through my security in the past month or so. I run Windows Defender & Firewall, on W8.

I hadn't noticed any problems with my PC, and about a week ago, I was watching a movie, and it started 'stuttering'. The sound was skipping, and the picture jiggling.

My PC froze. CTRL-ALT-DEL didn't work, so I shut down my power bar, waited a few seconds, and powered up. Then, I came here and went through the steps in the READ ME sticky.

I don't have any extensions or apps on my Chrome except for Google Talk and Google Docs, so I don't think my toolbar was hijacked. (?)

Since I did that, things seem mostly fine, but 'off'. There is a hesitation when I click on the speakers icon on my taskbar of about a second or so (was superfast before), and my window media player takes a while to load. URLs are slow in loading.

Today, I was going to uninstall a program , and I typed "uninstall" into the search function ............ a strange application came up, and asked for permission - no identitied certificate ... I wrote the name down, and looked it up "uninstall.exe". It appears this is malicious software.

So, here I am.

When I was going through the READ ME instructions, and was doing RogueKiller - at the last screen, there were 4 affected files. No permissions asked or indicated, and no menu or boxes showed/selected, so I hit next, and it quarantined the files. I'm sorry, was being careful. So I clossed, and saved the quarantine report too. I hope that is not a major mistake!

I can only attach 5 items (my report logs), so will make an additional post to attach the Quarantine log. If that is permitted. If I can't make another post to do this, I'll keep it on my desktop.

Though it's far too late for the fix, and I'm running a newly-installed Win7 now, thanks to a friend (the one who told about this most awesome site a long time ago).

This site, and all who volunteer and contribute, are greatly appreciated.
