All required security hotfixes (using the 07/10/2007 Microsoft Security Bulletin Summary) have been installed.

----has suddenly started delaying its response to a right click of the START button about 10 seconds. A similar delay started with icons that reference the net. A message that "windows can't find xxxx blah blah" pops up shortly followed by the site. It behaves normally after that.

I did complete malware scans using several products w/ no help
a Registry cleanup w/ no help
    a Restore w/ no help
    an SFC w /same result
edited the registry menu speed key from 400 to 0 and back again. Neither value made the slightest difference.
updated some certificates from the Microsoft Update Site.
uninstalled all the new software from before the problem started.

I have been searching for a tool that will trigger off a right mouse click and capture what's happening to try to find out what's generating the delay but haven't found one yet.

The machine behaves normally and everything works just like it should, it just has this annoying delay!

Now I am stuck! Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks Steve and Matacumbie

I ran the registry scanner and got some strange results! There are 10 or 15 CLSIDs with multiple \\ embedded in the string. For example,
    HKCR\CLSID\{6BE14B1D-1B37-466c-8FB6-0EC698C224BA} LocalizedString REG_SZ @C:\\Program Files\\CA\\CA Internet Security Suite\\CA Anti-Spyware\\CaAspyResource.dll,-2400 5/28/2007 3:57:59 PM 94

This is a legitimate address in my security suite but, with \ not \\ inserted.

    This string is unknown:
    HKCR\CLSID\{214303B5-8894-8B2C-FC68-DB84D06D9DD6}\injDp REG_SZ G}\\bYTs~j@zEgAJpxuPReZB] 6/30/2007 4:52:36 PM 26

    and could be the problem.

Do you folks have any idea what this indicates?

    Regards
    Tom

    Hi Tom,

I have no idea if that last string is the culprit. I would think it suspect simply because it does not have any program associated with it. I would think that anything legit you would recognize some part of the string.

    Hi Guys and Gals
This one is solved. I could not interpret the output of Regscanner. So I used the Nirsoft ShellExView and the problem became readily apparent.

    Thanks to Everybody who contributed.
