How to access game videos/sound (FMV etc) files?

I have a number of games whose ingame fmv sequences seem unplayable via normal media players.
    Same with apparent audio files.
Take Silent Hill 3 for example; the movies seem to be .000 files, whatever they are.
And there's Broken Sword 3's audio files which seem to be .rws, whatever *they* are (!)

Does anyone know how I can directly play such files?
    Cheers.

Thanks Robo, nice to check the place out.
I'll try the old renaming trick, might just work.
