Im, getting ready to buy a new laptop and I'm going to go wireless this time. However I was wondering what kind of card to get in the laptop. I can go either with Bluetooth tech or with the standard cards. Whats the difference and whats the best way to go? :)

    Bluetooth is shorter range.

There are plenty of differences, but aside from the frequnecy hopping ability to lower possible outside interference, I see nothing but disadvantages.

Go 802.11g, or wait until 802.11i is released.

Thats kinda what I've been trying to figure out. If I go Bluetooth will it limit me as to the places I can connect or not. and is it going to be better to just stick with the standard 802.11 cards. I also noticed that the Bluetooth cards are more expensive. I priced my laptop without Bluetooth and was wondering if I should change it or not.

Yes, bth will limit you to bth receivers, access points or dongles.

You can always add it later via PCMCIA. Save now, wait until its an actually useful technology, IMO.

the laptop comes with one of the cards built in so it just depends on if I want to spend the extra for Bluetooth or stick with the standard card. That and I want to go wireless at the house this time so I need to know so I can get my router :)

it sucks because the most expencive piece is going to be the wireless cars for the X-box....lol

Bluetooth (BT) was mainly invented to replace the IR capacity of some computers.

I.e. Keyboard printer Mouse. Unfortunately, it does not look like it is emerging as the dominant Standard even in this limited scope.

I doubt that it will ever replace the common Ethernet Wireless.
If you plan to equipped, your Laptop with BT external Keyboard Mouse and printer get BT. Otherwise I would not take it even for Free, as far as Network concern it is currently useless.

Go for 11g - you can buy a Bluetooth USB thang for about £20 if you really need it ;)
