Im having a bit of a problem with my computer, i think im overheating, but not positive, i have cleaned my fan and heatsink as well as possible, may need to use thermal compound, but havent done it yet, im averaging 44 celcious on temp on idle and 64 under load. im running an amd processor 1.4 or 1.6 mhz.

What im wanting to know first is what do the beeps mean. Things will be fine then i will hear a steady beep, beep, beep, with corresponding flash of red light on front case(usually means the computer is doing something)

i had a similar problem with my son's Dell except his would overheat and reboot, tech support had me reseat each stick of ram.

Before i do all this i would like to know what the beeps mean. Is there a website that will give me this information or does anyone know.

eeep 64 C on an AMD chip is VERY hot. amd chips have a lower temperature tolerance then intel chips. whether or not 64 C is a good temp or not for your CPU i dont know but i highly doubt it. The beeps may be refering to your core being so hot. I think you prolly are over heating.

    And for the:

Not sure if that has anymeaning or not. it could just be odd timing.

I would recommend taking off your heatsink and removing the thermal paste with isopropal alcohol (just be very careful) then reapplying thermal paste onto the core and mounting your fan/heatsink securly on your chip. I am betting that your temperature will drop and the beeping should stop if heat is the problem

sorry for the long reply time i was typing my essay :p

You need to upgrade your cpu 1.6mhz is way to slow, my computer runs ar 1,000X that speed and I get bad lag wneh I play world of warcraft.

Thank you for your help, you confirmed what i was thinking. Hopefully, no damage was done to motherboard on cpu and that thermal paste will solve the problem.

As for getting a new cpu, i dont have any lagging problems and all my apps and games run fine, so unless the cpu is damaged i dont think i need to upgrade the cpu just yet, but thanks for the suggestion anyway.

I agree it sounds like overheating, how are you calculating your load temps?A good way to see how your computer runs under load is by running speedfan

    http://majorgeeks.com/SpeedFan_d337.html

And while monitoring your temps run toast for half an hour and see how high your cpu goes, after you run toast your cpu will be the one with the flame next to it and rising the fastest dont worry thats normal

post how high your cpu goes

If you can't fit extra fans in your case, you can always buy a double fan that fits in one of your unused metal card slots, on the back of your PC, where you plug in cards. We used one when we had a computer in a hot area of a Warehouse. Bazza
