Hi, I recently purchased an ASUS M51sn, which is a laptop. its specs are:

    Intel Duo T8300 2.4ghz + 2.4ghz
    4GB ram
    250GB HD
    GeForce 9500 GS (512mb) DX 10 Shader 4
    Windows Vista Premium (SP1)
Laptop Cooler (keeps everything cold, so overheat isnt an issue)

Most of my older games run perfectly such as CS:S, but newer games like Assassin's Creed can only be smoothly played with the lowest settings... I'm sure that my computer should be able to handle high settings (if not even medium)... Can anyone help me figure out why its so slow? (maybe vista's the problem)

    Thank you,

    Sung

You could try stopping background tasks while playing the game. Anything that is running that isn't necessary...

Try getting rid of some background tasks and programs while playing to free up some resources. Also, even with a cooler, there is still a possibility of overheating. I kick up the GPU fan speed while playing Assasin's Creed even in my desktop with plenty of case fans running. You might want to monitor the tempature during gameplay just to make sure. It's not hard to do, and since it's not, you might as well make 100% sure it isn't part of the problem.

    Hope this helps.

thanks a lot for the reply, I tried checking the temperature and its not good.
while playing assassin's creed (@ maxed settings), the temp went from 42->62C.
not sure how to fix this problem, or even if it can be fixed.. i'll try turning up the fans for now.

    thank you :D

Have you looked into one of those cooling pads? I've heard that they help, but I wouldn't know which brand to advise. Sorry. You could try finding some reviews on them, though. I think most of them are in the $30 range, but I'm not sure. Hope this helps.

Also, what part is that temp for? Graphics, CPU?
