I got guild wars the day it came out and i was on AOL

i got download speeds on the update of 50kbps ( on a 512mb connection )

then i went from AOL to TISCALI and now my update speed is around 1-6kbps ( still on 512mb )

    I dont have a firewall

    i use windows xp sp2

its realy annoying when im trying to play with frends and there game is downloading at 50kbps + and im there downloading at 5kbps

4mb updates on some areas on 5kbps = around 10 mins and its getting REALY annoying

There's one simple solution for this...

Get rid of Dial Up...to play game at the best like guildwars it's recommended DSL or greater.

    1-6 Kbps is horrible.

Do other things download slow? Have you tried lowering your firewall and seeing if that helps?

    Using a router?

We really need more information than you have supplied.

I'm not sure I understand you correctly, first of all I've never head of TISCALI, Second 85% of all people using anything AOL is more than likely dial up.

I know you're not talking about the game I'm not either but this is the Games Section, but as I said if you read correctly IF you are on dial up it is useless to play most online game, but if you need help partaining to you're internet speeds might try the software forums or try DSL reports forums.

(still on 512kb) This meaning what exactly? Connection speed, RAM, GPU...Could be anything please elaborate.

    Right ill retype it all

When the game "guild wars" first came out i was using a 512kb broadband connection for the internet

When i downloaded stuff from the internet i got a 50kbps speed
When i downloaded updates for Guild wars i got 50kbps speed
when i downloaded updates for other games i got 50kbps

Then i moved my ISP from AOL to TISCALI

When i joined tiscali i was also on a 512kbps broadband connection

when i downloaded stuff from the internet i got a 50kbps speed
when i downloaded updates for Guildwars Abd other game i got 5kbps

    So what im asking is

Why from 50kbps download speed for updates has it gone down to 5kbps speed

    I dont use a router
    I dont use networking
    I only use Windows Firewall
ive scanned for vairuses, spywear and any other type of bug that my pc should not have and its clean

i run on windows xp SP2

If u need any more info just ask

Are you using the same modem that you used before with AOL...I would imagine you're using a broadband modem.

Is it DSL or cable type modem and what brand of modem is it?

As I said I think http://dslreports.com might beable to help you more than we could, but seeing as I've seen some weird stuff with my Cable connection most of my speed demise was infact a faulty modem.

Also you're most likley reason for a speed decrease during the ISP switch is TISCALI (I never thought I'd say this) seems to be worse than AOL is quality speeds. If TISCALI isn't you're local cable provider, I'd suggest going with you're local cable providers High Speed Internet if they have one, If not switch back to AOL.

But all this will not mean anything if you have a faulty modem, So the info above is critical.
