    1. It uses IE, whereas I prefer Firefox. Can I change this setting? (I'm using Win XP/SP2)

    2. I use Google Desktop because my regular 'Search' option has failed. It failed a long time ago for a reason I cannot remember anymore - maybe I installed some program that was supposed to replace it with a faster, superior search... Anyway, Google Desktop searches fine on my Desktop computer, but is pissing me off because it always open up IE. How can I fix the regular search feature in windows XP?

    3. On my Laptop computer, I had to uninstall Google Desktop because multiple instances of it (2,3,even 4...) copies of it kept popping up in task manager's processes window, and they took up 50-100% of my CPU, slowed everything down and stopped other programs from working. (On an aside, the same CPU hogging happened on my Desktop, but not laptop, with Threat Fire program that is supposed to provide (active) protection against malware, rootkits in particular for the free versions)

    I second the Copernic.

I tried the suggestions in that google group thread, but they didn't work for me. I also installed Copernic, but it doesn't search for folders, so I still need another program. Any more suggestions?
