OK folks, where, if existing, is the Smitfraudfix for WIndows ME?
If none exists what can I do/use to rid this machine of this annoying Malware...

    Thanks in advance.....

    Hi

Best option is to run the below and attach all the logs requested so the experts her can review them and issue you some removal instructions.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

There is not such supported tool for old Windows version like Win ME and Win 98. Just like Microsoft has dropped support for these very old and out dated versions of Windows, most software vendors don't support them anymore either. That is also why most private tools like SmitFraudFix and many others do not support the running of these tools on older OS's either. In addition, the older Windows versions are so different that many things being done with these private tools cannot be run on older Windows versions anyway.

Your best bet is to run thru the below. Note there are places in this procedure where you cannot run certain steps because you have an old OS. The procedure tells you when steps are only for a certain OS and what to skip.

    I appreciate the responses....

I've, since the posting of this thread, been able to remove all instances of this infection with exception of the flashing icon in the tool bar. I'm also aware of most of the statements/suggestions regarding the OS I'm using as well as my "support" options because of the operating system I am currently running. I have checked the registry with relation to the removal instructions but have been unsuccessful so far.

Below is the Highjack This logfile I just created and any and all help/suggestions are greatly appreciated. Any other suggestions with regards to what someone may see here that is "questionable" or unnecessary are appreciated as well.

Edit by chaslang: Inline HJT log removed. READ & RUN ME sticky not followed.
