Hi guys. Thanks for a great site. I came down with malware yesterday and have been walking through your proceedure to get rid of the Malware. I thought I was doing so good in carefully following each proceedure but I jumped the gun with Combofix. Up to that point (installing the other 3 malware programs) everything was going great. Lots of stuff was removed and the problem I had went away. I decide that I should continue along and run all 5 programs. I go to Combofix and started reading through and then started the problem thinking the instructions would walk me through setting it up. Obviously Combofix went along and started doing it's thing. After it started I noticed the comment about disabling antivirus and trojan software. I had Norton running as well as Spysweeper. During the "completed stage" process twice Spysweeper intercepted and asked if I wanted to let Combofix write to the system and I said yes. After about 10 minutes it finished stage 48 and then hung. I waited an hour and absolutely nothing was happening and the window still showed "Completed Stage_48". I then did a ctrl-alt-del and did a restart. Everything seems to have started back up fine but clearly Combofix did not finish and there is no log file in my root directory where I ran the program from. I was contemplating rerunning it in hope that it could finish what it was doing but wasn't sure if that could screw things up. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance for your help...Tbone

Hmm, looks like it's not back to normal. I just tried to double click an MP3 file and a Command Prompt window opens for a split second and then closes and that' it. Looks like there are some things that Combifix left in disarray.

Sorry, one more thing, the instructions said the log file would be in the root but I just found a C:\Combofix directory and the log file is in there although there very little info. I have attached it in case it's of any use.

Ok, after poking around the internet I happened to see a comment about doing a system restore so I checked mine and sure enough there was a recent restore point from when Combofix was first run. So, I restored it. In addition, when I tried to run the MP3 again the window was much slower to respond and as such I got to read the message and it turns out that my mp3 player no longer existed. So, that's also sort.

I will disable everything and try to run Combofix again and see if it makes it through and if so will run the final program and report back.

    Thanks,
    Tbone

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Only the C:\combofix.txt log is what is wanted. If you don't have one then ComboFix never finished running properly. Per your first message, you had not shutdown protection software. You need to do this if you plan on running ComboFix.

Also note, you should not be attach the ComboFix log by itself. You should be attaching all 4 requested logs.
