aol virus?

Not sure if this is the correct forum for this, so apologies from this newbie if I am going about this in the wrong way!

I think i have a virus, but I do not know where it exists. Here is the scenario:

I have an aol email account that I access rarely--another family member uses aol; my account is one of the user names associated with the family account. My account basically just sits there; I only access it via web(I think I may have accessed my aol account at some point in the week before, there is always junk & sketchy email in it; I usually skim to see if any real communications & delete spam).

One day this week in my other non-aol inbox, I received an email from my aol address with the subject "fwd: news" and some kind of evil link in the body. Then I get a call from someone telling me that they thought i sent them email, but realized it was my really old email address. I freak out & decide to delete the email account, which the family member with the main account does for me. But I am still receiving these emails days after the account has been deleted! What do i do now?

Other info/questions:

Anyone else notice a lot of aol users with this type of issue--my work email has received about 10 similar viral emails from aol email addresses (not people in my contacts who would have rec'd an email from me)

Thanks so much for the response. I have run numerous scans...waiting for news about the "aolhack" as many people have reported similar issues & posted & tweeted about it since I first wrote about my issue. I am thinking it is something not on my pc, but..???
