Whenever I roll my mouse wheel up or down it squeaks a lot. And its getting really annoying. Is there anything out there I could use to maybe greese it up or something? Like alcohol or something, without hurting the internal parts?

If you do anything to it, I recommend unplugging it from the computer, and opening it. That way you can dry the wheel out after your finished, without worrying about damaging internals. Most of them have just a single screw holding the top on. Unless it's optical, then just buy a new one.

Yeah its an optical, but I dont want to buy a new one. I might get a small can of air just try to spray in there, see if that helps. The optical mice are still expensive, and this one is brand new.

I agree with NeoNemesis when he says "to buy a new one" I mean you could get a optical lazer mouse from walmart or bestbuy for like 20 bucks now or less...

LOL have u tried oiling it :)
Chuck it in the bin. Get a new optical mouse hear in the UK they now cost around £5 or a cheap ball mouse costs around £3.

I'll be sticking with ball mice. I play a lot of games, and don't trust optical mice for my gaming.

I've been using optical mice for games for years (even use a cordless now) and no problems whatsoever. I'd never go near a trackball mouse.

As for your mouse problem you could try feeding it. Maybe it's hungry. That or do like everyone else says and buy a new one. ;)

Not to be an a** but maybe NeoNemesis has a reason? Sentimental value who knows. Maybe the mere satisfaction of a true DIYer. Solving problems is fun, so are challenges. All I'm sayin is I think he knows the market value :)

(No disrespect to anyone, especially ThisChick and her awesome avatar.)

Well its not that new, I'd say about 3 months. But that isn't old. But it isn't new enough to return.

How do you know they won't take it back if you don't ask them?

    Try it.

    The wheel to scroll pages??

Its probably rubbing on something, push it around, jiggle it, w/e or just don't scroll alot if its just the noise that bothers you, try some WD-40

I would try a little squirt of WD-40. I can't imagine what is actually squeaking because mousewheels aren't generally made with the same type of plastic like the rest of the mouse. You probably have to take it apart and remove anything inside that is causing the squeak. This is your chance to see the insides of your mouse. I did a lot of computer stuff on a budget too. Just don't spend too much on compressed air or something when you could spend just a little bit more on a new mouse. BTW - you can get away with a lot on returning computer parts if you pretend like your a dumb computer user who doesn't know the difference between a reset button and a power button (old school example).

Try cleaning the bits with tape head cleaning fluid carefully. This could help if it is a dirt related problem.

~Pyrate~, Have you tried opening up your mouse, remove the ball and scrape the 3 contacts to remove the crap and fluff that accumulates. I use my fingernail, you may be more fussy than I am. Once all the "high tide marks" are removed from the 3 contacts, replace the ball and cover. Your mouse should be as good as new. Bazza

@bazza ,,, i just opened the mouse and there wasn't any but i took a wet paper towel and cleaned the ball... hopefully that will help ... but i think it has more to do with the fact im using a piece of paper as a mouse pad .. lol .. i spilled a drink on my other one rendering it unusable ... that's what i like about the optical is that you don't need a mousepad just a reasonably clean surface
