is ultimate as good as the name suggests is it, is there a significant improvement over home premium. What would i need in ultimate that isn't in home premium?

bearing in mind im just your average pc user, plays some games, does coursework etc etc

From what you've mentioned doing, it seems that Home Premium would work fine for you.

2 other things to consider: First, with Vista, you can try different versions, as all versions come on 1 DVD. If you don't input a key code (say for the Home Premium you bought), you can choose to install Ultimate for a 30 day trial period. If you don't want/need Ultimate, then you'd need to reinstall Vista, but use the Home Premium key when installing. And/Or there is the Upgrade Anytime feature, so if you feel that Home Premium isn't cutting it anymore (or don't want to go back to it), just go through the upgrade and you'll have Ultimate at perhaps a discounted price.

    Hope this helps.
