My Far Cry CD Key Got Jacked!

Great game, but when I finally decided to try online gameplay, I had a hard enough time just finding the CD key. It's in the booklet that came with the game, by the way, if anyone else should be having trouble with this. Anyway... when I finally got in and found some servers to play on, I got a message saying "CD Key is Already in Use!".

I bought a legitimate game, unlike whoever has my CD key. It's an infuriating thing to find that some cheap, pirating punk has generated your key and you're denied from playing online after paying $50 bucks for the game. I tried it again this morning and was able to actually play since whatever punk has my key must not have been online at the time.

So at least I can get in whenever that other person isn't, but still... I have thought of contacting ubisoft to inform them of this so that perhaps they can provide me with a fresh key. However, my only problem with that is... I don't have the receipt, which is the only way I know that I could possibly prove my proof of purchase. I guess I could scan the booklet where the CD key is shown and this would be the next best thing, but I don't know if that will be good enough for them.

What do you guys think? Do you think ubisoft will help me with this dilemma?

    have you tried again?

i noticed that the ubisoft verification server can be picky as to how you enter the CD-key.

even after its verified, you will occasionally get a "cd-key in use" message, which I have come to accept as an error, as if i try again, i can get on with no problem.

if you haven't, keep trying the key and see if this might be an error.

if it truly is stolen, i'm sure Ubisoft will be able to work something out with you... maybe disable your old key and give you a new one.

You were right, InYearsToCome, but now I have a new problem. It's extremely difficult to find a server that won't kick you upon connecting. For some reason, the majority of the servers out there kick you every time immediately after connecting for no reason whatsoever. It's not the admin of the server, it's just the server itself.

When I finally do get connected and spawn, I see other players trying to connect and being kicked and the reason was for cheating. I highly doubt with such a new game that there are that many people cheating out there... there is something wrong with the cheat detection within this game, and it's extremely annoying.

One other thing... if I am actually able to connect, I seem to only be able to play for a short time because of other "connection" problems. It sometimes disconnects me saying the server went down, which is not true, because I'll come back and the server is up with people playing. And yet another aggrevating problem, it'll say the server is not responding and advises me to disconnect.

I think ubisoft needs to get their network together. It's not exactly what I would call a high quality gaming experience. There is nothing wrong with my internet connection, I assure you. I play several mods on the Half-Life Steam engine without any problems... EVER. Great game... but they better get their online gaming together or it'll be bye-bye to that game for me.

i dont have far cry, but i suspect your problem is with punkbuster. look around throught your settings to enable it. many game servers will kick peopel who dont have punkbuster enabled

If you have the original box, reciet, game discs, original case and you registered the game, UBI will give you a new cd key. :)

Hmmm... you sure you've updated to version 1.1?

I dont have much trouble at all joining games or staying connected.
Most of the time I play on non-punkbuster servers. I find them less laggy, and if there are cheaters, its more challenging for me;) i do find that 99% of people playing this game online suck really bad.. so if they cheat they might actually be able to kill me hehe.

if you have already updated to version 1.1, i'm not sure what the problem would be. Be sure you are joining servers with decent ping... and try a few non-punkbuster to see if it works alright.

Once again, I think this is an awesome game, but the online experience is a bit weak. I'd like to see where the mods go with this, since the engine and game has lots of potential.

Once again you're right, InYearsToCome. I downloaded and installed the 1.1 patch and right in the release notes, it describes the exact problem I've been having. This is one of the bugs that was fixed with this update. I guess I should check on these things before I start going off in the head... It just gets really frustrating sometimes... especially when all I want to do is enjoy my weekend off from work and play some games! Speaking of which, I'm off to do right now! :D
