    Hi.

I just bought a WD 80GB 7200 RPM HDD, and I want to move my OS files from my old Maxtor 20GB 5400 RPM HDD.

I don't want to copy the entire drive, just the OS (I want to keep my current configurations because it took me so long to get it how I like). Can this be done, or do I have to grin and bear the fact that I'll be starting fresh?

    Hey Gott,
You can use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to move configurations, adddress book stuff, bookmarks, so on if you are running XP. Whats your OS?

    XP Pro.

Sweet! I'll have to give that a shot when I get back in from class.

Okay...one question...How do I access this File and Setting Transfer wizard?

    Yes,
boot from the XP installation cd, and choose the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. The menu that follows is very nice.

Oh, and be sure to leave a couple of partitions on that fresh new HDD for knoppix. A swap partition and a 1 GB sys part should do. :)

This thing is also kind of like a backup of sorts. It will prompt you for methods, etc....
Most convenient is the save to removable media option, or something like that.
    You'll see. Its very easy.
Whoever came up with this idea was doing a good job.

So, Gott, hope this helps, since I jumped in headlong and maybe got overly excited that I may be helpful and others may have not responded since there were so many replies.

At least Adrynaline cannot kill a kitten because of me :)
