good afternoon, i have been using your site in the past to fix any problems related to pcs i have come across, and it has been most useful.

now i have encountered the problem of the topic, and i first went thru all the recommended "do this first" steps, i still have the fake firewall alert from greenscreen. i believe the fraudload.n also remains in some form as i get another pop up which is the same as the one in this thread http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=168244

i see that combofix can have individual solutions so i decided to post separately as this leads me to believe i cannot just do what the other user is doing exactly. if im wrong then im sure you will inform me.

i have included the combofix log and the MG log that was run after combofix.
other than the ever annoying fake alert popup, it doesnt seem to be doing much, tho im sure it's doing something and would rather do away with it.

    thx in advance.

edit: this all originated from smitfraud.c, which according to spybot s&d, is still there. im not sure whether that is a false positive or not. problem has existed for about 24 hours, although initial cleanings cleared up a majority of the problems.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You need to attach the requested logs from SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes. They can be found in the below paths:
    Code:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\prof. pickles\Application Data\SUPERAntiSpyware.com\SUPERAntiSpyware\Logs\"
    supera~1.log 2008-08-31 2308 "SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log - 08-31-2008 - 13-29-19.log"

    Locating all files created in C:\Documents and Settings\prof. pickles\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs
    "C:\Documents and Settings\prof. pickles\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\"
    mbam-l~1.txt 2008-08-31 2064 "mbam-log-08-31-2008 (14-11-51).txt"

You also must disable Spybot's Teatimer as was requested in the READ & RUN ME. See this: How to disable Spybot's TeaTimer

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5BAB4B5B-68BC-4B02-94D6-2FC0DE4A7897} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Policies\Explorer\Run: [G9PzwHowPA] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\jojejodi\duvupqle.exe
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Also delete all files and subfolders in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

these are the logs requested after following instructions.

i should note that i did not see
    O4 - HKLM\..\Policies\Explorer\Run: [G9PzwHowPA] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\jojejodi\duvupqle.exe

    fixme.reg was successful

i did receive the greenscreen fake warning while in process of doing these things. i will post if these things persist from now until naptime or your next response/instruction.

Now we need to use ComboFix again.

Now double click the fixme.reg saved to your desktop in the last fix and allow it to be added to your registy.

The malware you have is respawning and renaming itself on reboots. After attaching your logs, do not power down or otherwise reboot.

instructions followed. new logs attached. the pop up did not occur on this restart.

i am curious about one thing ive noticed now. my AVG shows the AVG scan icon as running scans in addition to the normal user interface icon, except that its not running scans. clicking on it to stop or continue has done nothing. if i use the interface and start and then cancel a scan, it goes away though.

Your logs are clean. If you are still having problems with AVG, it may need to be reinstalled.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significan amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
