I have the computer with XP on the LAN side and would like to use Remote Desktop and connect to the computer on the WAN.

I am unable to do this at the moment and am not sure what I need to do.

    Router: DLink DI-514

    Thanks for your help...

You have to oeon the port that RDT uses (port 3389) toward the IP of the LAN side computer.

And also then when using a connection you have to use the wan ip if your outside of the lan.

Let me try to clarify my point,

The Computer on the WAN Port is sharing my dial-up internet connection

What I want to be able to do is from one of my other computer that's on the same network is use the Windows Remote Desktop program so I can control it anywhere in my house.

I have looked at D-Links website and they tell me to add it as a Virtual Server but I have come to find out that's for connecting from the outside my local area network.

I have tried doing it under the other tabs too, for example Firewall, but I still couldn't get it to work. It works perfectly find if I make the router into a switch so I know its not Comodo Firewall I have on the computer.

I hope this helps clarify my point.

    Thanks again...

If you are only trying to connect to the Remote Desktop Server of a WinXP Pro machine across a LAN, and you have not editing the registry to change the default listening port (3389), you do not need to use the port number to connect. You do need to know the LAN IP address of the server machine or its computer name, and enter one or the other into the RDP client connection of the other PC. Remote Desktop connections need to be allowed in System Properties -> Remote tab of the server machine. You will have to log in using the ID and password of an authorized user on the server-- this means you must have at least one passworded account on the server.

I think you should describe clearly, in more details, how your Network topology is configured.

If you are using a Wireless Router to share DialUp with a Wireless computer, you should not use the WAN port but rather configure the Router as an Acess Point, http://www.ezlan.net/router_AP.html
