Helping out with an old compaq presario, 256M RAM, ugh!
Anyway, all cleaned up, a little malware but nothing serious. Boots up as fast as a 256RAM 'puter with XP SP3 can be expected. Runs smooth, does all it can.

    No sound.

Tried reinstalling sound drivers from HP website, no problem, but no sound.

Tried disabling, rebooting, enabling, no sound.

Used 2 different of external speakers, no sound.

No yellow flags, no significant events, no sound.

No sound from external speakers or machine speaker, no sound.

Using media player, upgraded to 11, no sound before or after. No windows sounds either.

Can't buy anything for it, just preparing it to be given away to elderly person, mostly for email purposes.

    Hi BP

Is the Windows Audio Service, Started and set to Automatic startup?

Did you try the registry trick to fool SP3 into thinking its SP2 and re-install the UAA drivers then the Audio again?

Check BIOS for onboard audio, disable then reboot, then re-enable and re-install the UAA and Audio (note the reg trick needs doing)

    Hi BP

Sorry, didnt post it as I thought you'd have seen this before on the forum, but here it is below, it can when everything looks ok in say device manager etc, just help fix audio issues.

A very outsider is the beta of Microsoft Fix It HERE as it may find the cause and fix it, may not do if too many 3rd party apps etc are the cause, but if its a Windows setting it may do.

Tried all the above plus I found an update for the realtek audio driver. Did all the rebooting, registry trick, etc.
    No sound.

Funny thing is though, good sound through the front headphone jack, including system sounds.

Unless there is anything else I can try, they'll just have to use headphones to hear anything.:wave:wave
