i hate cell phones (still)

so... the dog ate my phone!! it was the hell phone companies fault!! dam thing never did work.
there was something wrong with the charger so half the time it wasnt charging. it was a motorollassover, (now its a motorchewedover). in addition it didnt recieve well, which on an island already beset with everykind of communication interfearence known to man, and a few besides, makes it a totalscrewover. anyway, in an effort to get it to charge, my nephew, who is visiting from england, offered to see if it would charge on his charger in his bedroom. the very dim braindead dog has taken quite a liking to my nephew, and creeps on to his bed when no-one is looking. the ringing of the phone must have freaked it (which isnt hard to do, believe me!), so he chewed it up. the phone had obviously started the voice mail thingy, and when we found the pieces of chewed plastic and wires, believe it or not, we were still able to access the voice mail. the sound of the dimwit dog, knoring and wimpering on the phone was the funniest thing i have heard all year. so.... i ring the yell phone company (cries-on) and explain about the phone and the dog and everything, and ask for a new phone. i dont want anything fancy, no pictures or puters or anything, just a phone to call my own (sob).....in the END... 1hr15mins later!!!! they agreed to give me fifity bucks, i cant remember why, and refund me two months charges on my drone, and i then BUY a new phone frome radio shack. they cant GIVE me a replacement phone. they give these things away by the thousands, especially the already outdated ones, which is what i actually want. go figure. aloha

 

I really enjoyed that post, sorry about the phone. But had to laugh, those things always happen to me. I know you better now thanks.

Laurie, there are sites devoted to cellphone carriers. PM me and I can send you to one for your carrier. There are enthusiasts on these sites who will sell you a used phone at a reduced rate.

I carry insurance on mine if it is "lost or stolen." I don't think the dog event would be a warranty or insurance feature.

Oh and all cell phones have lousy reception in certain places.....

 

thanks boomm, i will do that. hubby has a nokia and that seems to work a lot better than my motorola. i had a nokia before and it wasnt too bad. i went to radio shack to get a new one. verizon said it would cost about $125, but they wanted over $200 at RS. so now i have to go to the only verizon shop on the island, in hilo, about 80mls away. ill check this site of yours. much aloha

I Suggested there are dedicated phone forums online for Verizon users. Or go to the Howard Phone forums and see if anyone has phones for sale that will work on the verizon network. Easier to pay $125 for 1 yr old phone than $179-$199 for a new one.

 

I have never, and will never, own a cell phone. I have telephones in my house, with caller I.D. - I don't need one in my pocket. I made sure my kids each had one, and my wife, in case a car breaks down or such - but I have no use for one myself. Or for that matter a pager . . . those closest to me know where I am 99% of the time anyway.

 

well i finally got a new phone!!!! after i wrote this a MONTH ago i went to radio shack and the cheapest nokia was $225 not the $120 i was quoted from verizon. rang verizon back and was told i would have to go to there center in kona (about 60-70mls away). they said that radio shack COULDN'T charge that much for a phone that was listed at $120. i suggested they rang them and told them that. so i went to kona, and then discovered that the center in kona DOESN'T SELL phones!! so rang verizon again. they told me to go to hilo (about 100mls away). had a melt down and refused. told them to cancel the plan. they then offered to send me a phone. (now theres a surprise!) overnight by fed ex. that was two weeks ago. it arrived this morning after i spent three days tracking it down. wrong address, and the contact # they gave was for the phone they are replacing!!! its also the wrong phone. i specifically requested a nokia 'cos they seem to work better. i got a samsung instead. when i went to activate it i found that they had put my hubby's number on it, instead of mine. phone arrived at 9am it is now 1:10pm and ive only just sorted it all out. i don't know how good samsung is. ill let you know. if anyone has one perhaps they could tell me if they're any good? it gets very warm when used, is that normal? much aloha

 

I have the Samsung x427m. The first one was terrible....zero signal even in the so-called good areas, so I sent it back for replacement. I think I had a dud the first time as this one is wayyyy better, and no Laurie, mine doesn't get hot when I use it.
