Hi. I lost sound. We have occassional power failures, but I don't know if loss of sound occurred in conjunction with an outage. In Device Manager there was a yellow exclamation point by Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio Compatibility Driver. On advice of friend I removed it. Reinstalled. Nothing. Computer is a Dell Dimension DIM4700. OS is Windows XP Home Edition. I read several threads on this forum. I went to Dell site and reinstalled audio drivers and chipset drivers for the DIM 4700 per one thread. I went on several driver sites and reinstalled SoundMax. SoundMax says a driver is missing. Itunes says problem with audio configuration. Should I just buy a sound card? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

What does your Device Manager show?
Where did you find that this Dell should have SoundMax?
This is the driver Dell shows for that model:
    ADI 198x Integrated Audio

Try uninstalling all the audio drivers you installed, through Add/Remove programs, then try reinstalling the ADI driver.
