I have an older soyo board that has an onboard raid. From what I understand you need 2 identical drives to do a raid, same size and same speed. Right now I have a Hitachi Deskstar 250gb, 7200 RPM drive, I have found a Seagate 250GB, 7200RPM. Would they work together or do I need to get the same brand?

RAID doesnt require identical disks, its just recommended that way as it provides less chance of the array failing. You should be able to RAID them no problem. Just be aware that RAID does put extra stress on the hard drives.
