Hi, have a new problem to me. I lost the use of my mouse and since I have a pen tablet, I used that instead until I could replace the batteries (my rationalization, they must have gone bad). Several hours later, I lost my keyboard, thought what a coincidence that both item batteries had gone bad the same day. I bit the bullet and change the batteries, but neither would work after that. To make a longer story a bit shorter, the bug eventually got to my pen tablet.

I rebooted hoping they would come back but didn't. I rebooted again and found my keyboard would work during boot and booted into safe mode with networking. So far all of my stuff works in safe mode and will be rebooting into normal mode after I post this.

When I started through the malware removal process, I found that when I tried to download the MGTools, Google blocked it. I disconnected all of my antivirus and malware detectors and I can't remember all I did (including deleting some additional software I had meant to before like Spybot and other stuff that piggybacks with other downloads), but I decided that I needed to go through the web browser misdirection path first. I did that with no problem other than one that I've had for a while now: I cannot create a restore point for some reason. Let's hope this fixed that issue.

I'm attaching my logs for your review.

I messed up on the RogueKiller log, didn't save it as a .txt file, coming up as a .json file. Any way I can retrieve that for you in the proper format?

    Thanks again!

    Hi Dr. Moriarty,

I reran the RogueKiller program and my file is attached. In safe mode everything is so distorted, it's hard to remember where all I have to scroll to get to what format you want. I wasn't sure if it would distort the results if I ran it again.

    Best regards,

    Laura / Stiina59

Nothing major was found - mostly alot of leftover folders from previous software uninstalls.

You badly need to either do some major disk cleanup or purchase a larger hhd. Sudden system problems with software crashing, executeables not running, system restore not working, etc. are among the signs.
You also have two real-time anti-malware blockers installed and this can cause problems. You need to uninstall one of them immediately.
    Hitman Pro 3.7
    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware version 2.1.8.1057

Now shut down your protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) to avoid possible conflicts. *Re-enable them before physically reconnecting to your ISP.

Using "Programs & Features" uninstall: (If you do not find it or it will not uninstall, just keep going.)
    Java 7 Update 25
    Mozilla Firefox 11.0 (x86 en-US)

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    • O20 - Winlogon Notify: !SASWinLogon - C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SASWINLO.DLL (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Run OTM.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of
      the code box
    Code:
    :services
    gupdate
    gupdatem
    :files
    C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SASWINLO.DLL
    C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware
    C:\Users\Laura\Desktop\Defogger (1).exe
    C:\Users\Laura\Desktop\MGtools (1).exe
    C:\Users\Laura\AppData\Roaming\OptimumPcBoost
    C:\Users\Laura\AppData\Roaming\SUPERAntiSpyware.com
    C:\Users\Laura\AppData\Roaming\Symantec
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\COMODO
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Norton Internet Security

    :commands
    [EmptyTemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large [IMG] button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach this log file to your next message.

Next download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.
    • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator
    • Click on the Scan button.
    • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
    • When it's done you'll see: Pending: Please uncheck elements you don't want removed.
    • Now click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R#].txt) will open in Notepad for review (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
    • Look over the log especially under Files/Folders for any program you want to save.
    • If there's a program you may want to save, just uncheck it from AdwCleaner.
    • If you're not sure, post the log for review. (all items found are either adware/spyware/foistware)
    • If you're ready to clean it all up.....click the Clean button.
    • After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S0].txt) will open automatically.
    • Attach that logfile to your next reply.
    • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which are created when running the tool.

Now install the current version of Sun Java from:
Make sure that when you install the new version of Java that you uncheck the Install the Ask Toolbar junkware checkbox. You do not want to add the stuff junk that most people consider malware to your PC. Also just in case Oracle changes the Java installation in the future to possible install other junk, uncheck all but just installing Java.

Please use this link to upgrade to the latest Firefox version:
    Mozilla Firefox 39.0 Final

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select "Run As Administrator").

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • updated MBAMReport.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
    • AdwCleaner[S#].txt
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Dr. Moriarty,

Thank you very much for your help. My computer is about 8 yr old if you can believe that and yes, I do realize that I need to get rid of some files. The largest file source right now is my photos and they are out of hand, but every time I try to organize them or pare them down, I have so many I get discouraged. I will keep plugging on that and do some disk maintenance. Also, I do have an external hdd and will try to move the older files over to it.

You asked for an updated MBam file, but you didn't ask me to run MBAM, just to delete one of the MBam or Roguekiller. I deleted the Roguekiller. I will rerun Mbam once I post the other files that were generated. I didn't reinstall Firefox and we don't use it any more. I am liking Chrome for the moment which is incompatible with the Java BTW. With those exceptions, I followed your instructions except for unchecking the Ask toolbar installation--I never saw that option! I will go to my Revo Uninstaller and see if I can't wipe that off.

    I appreciate your help.

    Hello, Laura

In regards to running MBAM again - please go ahead and re-run it, fixing that PUP if it's present.

Your logs look good. If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase it, it provide no protection. It do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and re-enable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7/8 - it is time to make sure you have re-enabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Go to the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. After doing the above, you should work through the below link:
    Safe surfing! [IMG]

    Dr. Moriarty,

Thank you for your help. I'm attaching the MBAM scan and so you know, I do have the license for it and the real-time protection.

I will do the follow up in the mean time and hope you take a glance at the results as I did not! I am just tired enough and now so programmed not to run any fixes, that I just used the report button and closed it out. Duh! If I need to I can rerun it.

    Thanks again!

I'm also getting blocked websites, including many here at Major Geeks. The follow up instructions won't load. I'm attaching a snapshot of what I'm getting, maybe you can point me to where I can unblock this.

I can't get to the main page, I can't go to the links on the protect yourself...I'm getting redirected to facebook in some cases...I can't deal with this, time for bed.

    Thanks!

I've gotten a few of those very recently, non-malware related. Let me know if the problem continues.

Did you take a peek at my MBAM log? I installed the PrivateFirewall and left the Windows Defender turned off and it keep blocking several things that makes me think I may still have something not yet taken care of.

    See what you think.

    Thanks again!

    Hi!

Your MBAM log shows no detections in its last run.
Web posts and reviews lead to the conclusion that it is not "install & forget". There is a learning curve to getting it properly configured, which is a topic for our Software Forum

*The main focus should now be increasing your OS free space to a minimum of 15% to properly function. As it stands, you have less than 3%!

Just an FYI, I have deleted some unused programs and now am up to 27% free space on my C: drive. Hopefully that will eliminate the rest of my issue.

    Thanks again!
