I have a Sony Vaio 4years old, Win XP Home, SP2 downloaded 2 years ago approximately. IE7 dnlded 3 months ago.
Then Aug 15th a Blue star came on the taskbar and a window popped up that said my computer was no longer secure and I had to upgrade to SP2.

Then at about the same time a blue icon appeared on the left of the taskbar and when I put the cursor on it, it said downloads are ready to be installed. So I hit it and it took 45 minutes to downoad what seemed to be SP2 that I thought I already had installed.

Then My IE7 would load yahoo but not go any further when I hit the button for mail or send email. It also will only go one or two steps into any program and then stops going forward. I have tried for days to resolve this short of re installing Windows. I have AVG free edition. Should I get PC cillon?

Was this a virus or something?
Was I hacked into like your thread implies?
