Zone Alarm discontinues support for Windows 98/ME/2000

Just an FYI for win 98/ME/2k users only, as I just ran into this problem today. Any version of Zone Alarm prior to and including 6.5 is not working anymore. Zone Alarm will give you a bunch of errors saying certain things can't be run, and your internet will be blocked. In order to remove Zone Alarm, you have to change the system date to anytime prior to July 15, 2009 .

This issue is related to ZoneAlarm version 6.5 and below ONLY.

As of 7/15/09 if you are running any ZoneAlarm product version 6.5 or below.

You may receive the following error message:

Validation failed for C:\Windows\system32\VSINIT.dll. You probably are missing a necessary root certificate,

This could be followed by the same message but for vsdata.dll.

Solution:

ZoneAlarm 6.5 or below will no longer function.

Un-install your version of ZoneAlarm. What you will need to do is set the PC's clock back prior to July 15, then run the uninstall to remove the program. If you have a valid, genuine ZoneAlarm license key in good standing you will need to upgrade by downloading version 8.0.400.020

Note: Windows ME, 98, 98se and Windows 2000 are not supported in version 8.0
