    Hi everyone,
    My name is bob27801

    It is my first post and I apologize for the length of it
    The purpose of this post is to prove the SIS UniVGA3 version 391 video drive for win 2K-XP2k3 and-win64 is incomplete and you should stay with the 390 version or your original working driver driver until a new one is posted or if you are one of the lucky 11 the driver supports or run win 98-ME note I also checked other web sites including majorgeeks before posting this message and and again don't modify this driver unless you know what you are doing!!!

    I had a problem installing the video driver on a MSI 651 FX chipset motherboard running Windows XP home SP3. I downloaded the new driver from the SIS web site.
    I was simply trying to update the driver from the previous version 390 to my surprise when I ran setup and stopped dead with an error I did not have the proper driver to install on the system. Strange, because this driver should cover the 661 FX chipset as it has done for seven of the previous versions.
    So I decided to look in the win 2K-XP folder the sis driver setup file here is the truncated list of only the 11 systems this driver supports instead of the 100 or so.

    [SiS.Mfg]
    %SiS.Product.DeviceDesc4% = SiS6350 , PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_6351
    %SiS.Product.DeviceDesc5% = SiS6350 , PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_6351&SUBSYS_63511039
    %Vender.F.DeviceDesc3% = SiS6350 , PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_6351&SUBSYS_141D10CF
    %Vender.F.DeviceDesc4% = SiS6350 , PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_6351&SUBSYS_141E10CF
    %Vender.Gigabyte.DeviceDesc3% = SiS6350 , PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_6351&SUBSYS_E2011631
    %Vender.Lenovo.DeviceDesc8% = SiS6350 , PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_6351&SUBSYS_306917AA
    %Vender.Quanta.DeviceDesc3% = SiS6350 , PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_6351&SUBSYS_C2021631
    %Vender.Dell.DeviceDesc1% = SiS6350 , PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_6351&SUBSYS_02811028
    %Vender.Dell.DeviceDesc2% = SiS6350 , PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_6351&SUBSYS_02C31028
    %Vender.Pegatron.DeviceDesc1% = SiS6350 , PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_6351&SUBSYS_20141B0A
    %Vender.Pegatron.DeviceDesc1% = SiS6350 , PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_6351&SUBSYS_200C1854

    Including a matching vendor localized descriptor strings
    ; Localizable Strings
    ;
    DiskId="Silicon Integrated Systems Installation DISK (VIDEO)"
    Provider="SiS"
    Mfg="SiS"
    SiS.Product.DeviceDesc4 ="SiS Mirage 3 Graphics"
    SiS.Product.DeviceDesc5 ="SiS Mirage 3 Graphics"
    Vender.F.DeviceDesc3 ="SiS Mirage 3 Graphics"
    Vender.F.DeviceDesc4 ="SiS Mirage 3 Graphics"
    Vender.Gigabyte.DeviceDesc3 ="SiS Mirage 3 Graphics"
    Vender.Lenovo.DeviceDesc8 ="SiS Mirage 3 Graphics"
    Vender.Quanta.DeviceDesc3 ="SiS Mirage 3 Graphics"
    Vender.Dell.DeviceDesc1 ="SiS Mirage 3 Graphics"
    Vender.Dell.DeviceDesc2 ="SiS Mirage 3 Graphics"
    Vender.Pegatron.DeviceDesc1 ="SiS Mirage 3 Graphics"
    Vender.Pegatron.DeviceDesc2 ="SiS Mirage 3 Graphics

    I then looked into the win 98-ME folder in the same driver setup file above and found the usual 100 device descriptors instead of the 11 above including the one for my MSI motherboard

    %Vender.MSI.DeviceDesc5% = Xabre660, PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_6330&SUBSYS_70601462
    I then added the vender descriptor string

    Vender.MSI.DeviceDesc5 ="SiS 661FX" at the bottom in the localize strings

    I ran setup again in this time the driver installed and is running perfectly only one caveat since I modified the setup file the driver is no longer digitally signed!!!

    Again I hope this helps someone and can someone please notify SIS of this situation. Thanks for your patience for reading this posts.

    As mentioned to you in email, SiS is simply a crap card, always has been. If a machine comes with it, its most likely a budget machine. I would not tinker or update that card, your not going to help it any. Too late, but next time look for Nvidia or AMD for the best cards on the market. Intel is barely a notch above SiS.

    This is why you got no responses. Most people with an SiS card would not update their drivers, tweak their machines or much else, in general. Even your average geek would run like hell from an SiS video card.

    SiS is also a Chinese company who sells cheap chipsets, updates them rarely and most likely just does not really care. They are not a player in the game.

    First some clarification The SIS UniVGA3 is a Multiplatform Integrated graphics driver based on the 2004 Mirage chipset it is a popular driver and is used on many popular basic PCs
    The drivers have always been complete driver certified by Microsoft

    The purpose of this post is to alert everyone this version R391 Dated 1/21/10 video driver for win 2K-XP-2k3 and-win64 is TOTALLY complete and is only an update for the SiS Mirage 3 Graphics devices and THE SIS 6350 & SIS 6351 Chipset ONLY ANY OTHER SIS VIDEO DRIVER OR CHIPSET WILL GIVE YOU A WRONG DRIVER ERROR WHEN YOU RUN SETUP AND IT MAY ACCIDENTALLY UNINSTALL YOUR PREVIOUS DRIVER IN THE PROCESS!!!.

    Re: SIS UniVGA3 v R391 install issue discovered new driver posted

    Hi Everyone,
    In addition to my previous post I just noticed,
    Microsoft posted on May 2, on the windows update web page the SIS Univga 3 universal Mirage chipset video driver for 98/ME/XP/2003/WIN64 ONLY dated 4/12/2010 version 3920 video driver only!!! no utilities it is an update to the May 2009 driver version 3900 [390 combined driver & utilities]

    WARNING If you are going to install the new driver above uninstall any previous driver before hand do not mix driver versions and have a backup of the previous working driver before continuing!!!

    When SIS will post the it's combined driver and utilities version possibly 392 should be soon probably in the next month or so so keep a sharp eye out for that update on the Major Geeks Or SIS websites!!!

    Thanks

    NEW SIS UVGA3 Driver update from Microsoft version 3930 dated 10/26/10
    use driver update feature to update from 3920 dated 4/1/10
    if you have an issue use the previous driver feature to go back to the old driver

    Enjoy

    Re: SIS UniVGA3 v R391 install issue discovered new driver posted

    HI EVERYONE
    Here is an Expanded explanation please read all of my post for the background
    The Last COMPLETE SIS video driver that contained a driver and VIDEO utilities UniVGA3 version 3.90 on the SIS Site and has not been updated since I checked as of 11/27/10. as stated in my previous post. If you have the SIS 3.90 driver installed click the video driver update in your windows OS to update to Microsoft version

    It looks like that SIS is no longer independently supporting the SIS UNIVGA3 chip-set so use the driver update to update the core driver as found
    thanks bob27801
