    hi.
i just bought a new online game and installed it with no problems. When i try to play it, after 2-4 minutes the screen will go black and i have to switch off my p.c.
After reboot, if i let chkdsk run, it will freeze after a certain amount of time. Again, forcing me to switch off the p.c. I dont know if chkdsk is actually freezing or if its just taking a hell of a long time to do anything. I once left it overnight and it had not moved!

    My P.C's specs are:

    CPU - pentium 4e, 3400mhz
    RAM - 1 gb
    hard drive - 200gb
    OS - XP with SP2

    Thanks very much!

Does this occur only for this game?
Did you check for device conflicts and did you get any error messages?
What graphic card do you have?

my graphic card is radeon 9800 series.
I checked for device conflicts using dxdiag and found under the "network" button the following message:

"The file dpmplay.dll needed for the service provider "Play on HEAT" is missing
You should reinstall DirectX to get the latest version."

That is the only error message i get

the problem only occurs for this game, and i had a similar problem about 6 months ago for another online game.

Reinstall DirectX as sugested, the dll may be needed for network play.

    reinstalled directx as requested.
I ran the game, after 2 mins error message popped up saying:

    "VPU recover
VPU recover has reset your graphics accelerater as it was no longer responding to graphic driver commands.

    Send error report dont send"

I clicked "Send" went back to the game for 2 mins then the screen went black and the computer reset. Help!

    Thanks

VPU recover TRIES to prevent reboots, the vpu recover kicks in when graphic processor is unable to handle driver commands.
You may need to reinstall your ATI driver.Which game is this?

Can you check if the graphic card is overheating?
Is guild wars the most demanding 3d game you have?

Use Everest or another system information software to find the temp.
You can post this in the hardware section as well.
