Hidden ads making sound?

So like to use a website that plays my shows for free. They don't give me viruses or anything, but there is a ton of advertisements. Now I usually click them off, but in the last week something new has emerged..........I see no ads, but sound is still playing from somewhere. It isn't the player that is on the site as the video I am watching starts and stops playing sound after I click play and stop..........Where else could the sound be coming from? Is there a way for me to block all sound except the sound coming from the main media player?

Not knowing what site it is and therefore not knowing what media type it is, OR what browser you are using, my suggestion is to use Firefox browser with flashblock addon - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/flashblock/
The flashblock stops flash media from playing until you manually click on the media.
Apparently, IE has a built in Flashblock described in the following link :
    http://lifehacker.com/5533694/use-internet-explorers-built+in-flash-block-feature

I don't use IE so I cannot speak to the effectiveness of the Flashblock for IE, but I can tell you that the one for Firefox is great . Not only does it prevent unwanted flash advertisements from playing, it also will block Flash-based exploits, keeping your browsing safer .

IF these dont work, we need more information on the site/media type and what browser you are using.

Some viruses can cause random ads to play on a computer when nothing is opened. You may want to post this over in the Malware Forum just as a precaution.

Many ads now appear in a "pop under" window... it used to be a "pop up" where the ad would show up in the middle of whatever web page you were looking at, but now MANY (actually, most of 'em) open under the main browser window. You don't see it, but if there's audio, you'll hear it. In Windows7, when this happens another "layer" will appear on the icon in the system tray (see screen shot attached) indicating that another window has been opened.....

The red boxes in the screen shot highlight the additional "layers" that appear when a new window is opened. The Internet Explorer icon shows one "layer" (or one other window open), the other icon (for the PaleMoon Browser -which is built on Firefox) shows two "layers" open (again, each layer is new window open in the browser). New "layers" do NOT appear when new tabs are opened in the browser, ONLY when a new browser window is opened. Many are the times that I've been farting around the interweb and suddenly someone is screaming at me about lowering my car insurance or re-financing my mortgage... 99.7% of the time it's one of these "pop under" ads. The other 0.3% it's an ad opening in one of the other tabs I have open... closing the offending tab or "pop under" window solves the problem.

(I hope this helps! I've had a beer or 5 and may not be at my descriptive best :innocent )

I may be way off the mark here, but just run this to check for a possible infection.

I want you to run TDSSKiller so refer to the below for how to do so.

    TDSSkiller - How to run

Please also download MBRCheck to your desktop.

See the download links under this icon [IMG]
    • Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
    • It will show a Black screen with some information that will contain either the below line if no problem is found:
      • Done! Press ENTER to exit...
    • Or you will see more information like below if a problem is found:
      • Found non-standard or infected MBR.
      • Enter 'Y' and hit ENTER for more options, or 'N' to exit:
    • Either way, just choose to exit the program at this point since we want to see only the scan results to begin with.
    • MBRCheck will create a log named similar to MBRCheck_07.16.10_00.32.33.txt which is random based on date and time.
    • Attach this log to your next message. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

Yes you are, but thanks for trying to help.

This worked perfectly, I instantly saw little F's all over my screen where it was blocking the sound. Little banners that had no volume control or any indication of making noise turned out to be the culprits. Thanks.

Thanks Fed Up. I had just begun having problems and was wondering where the sound was coming from although I knew they were a hidden program of some kind that was attaching itself on any webpage I went to on Firefox. :major
