XP will not start in normal mode after sp update

    My daughter is running a Toshiba laptop with Windows XP. There was an automatic update to her PC yesterday and she chose not to restart her machine. She kept it running overnight and this morning it had completed the update, rebooted but kept her in Safe Mode. I have had her remove the SP3 and reboot, but still nothing. I also had her try the sc config intelppm start= disabled command, but that still didn't work.

    Does anyone know what could be causing this?
