spyware/virus?

    having a problem with an error message appearing usually within a few minutes of going online.

    message says..

    msnmns32.exe Application error, failed to initialise properly click ok to terminate etc etc.

    have had a similar problem in past which turned out to be a trojan and I was able to get rid of it, suspect this is the same but not sure, there are two files on my system which am not sure about, the above

    msnmns32.exe in c:/windows

    and

    MSNMNS32.EXE-1385D581.pf in c:/windows/prefetch

    have run full virus scan, SbybotSD, CWShredder, ADAware which cleaned up a few problems but this message keeps appearing.

    hijack this log...

    You missed another sticky on basic cleaning and removal:

    Had you done that, you would have online virus scanned, got service pack 2 and more and that log file would be smaller.

    FYI, you do have a virus. Please remove these lines with your browser closed while in safe mode

    C:\WINDOWS\svchst.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MsnExplorer] C:\WINDOWS\svchst.exe /i


    Do all the steps and check back with us.

    thx, sorry again, spent far too long last night trying to find a solution, not enough sleep ;)

    done as suggested, can't find either file on my system now, will let you know what happens.

    Please do. FYI, not a BIG deal, I do understand that it gets confusing, frustrating and can make for being tired, confused and just pissed :) Worst case, the online virus scans in safe mode should fix it.
