Hi all, having a few computer problems and haven't been able to fix them myself, was hoping to get some more help here. For the past 3-4 days, I've been working on try to clean up my Mother's computer. It's been really slow for a while, taking a long time to open programs/folders, and to restart.

So far, I've scanned with avg, uninstalled and scanned with Avast, scanned with Adaware, Superantispyware, and Malwarebytes. All with the latest versions/definition updates. I defragmented the hard drive, and ran CC cleaner on the regular account and the admin account in safe mode. I've got the logs for Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, combo fix, root repeal, and MGtools. I ran Avast/Superantispyware/malarebytes in safe mode too, and they found a few more things, but it really hasn't helped too much. Gonna attach the logs to this post and a next, any help would be much appreciated.

Posting the other log, along with a couple of things I didn't think to add in the first post.

Is there any way to scan the contents of Yahoo mail for viruses? I have no idea where any of the stuff on here came from, if she's getting a lot of it from e-mails at least it would help to stop getting more stuff downloaded.

Also, Malwarebytes won't run if the .exe file isn't renamed, even after all the antivirus/malware programs ran.

The main reason for your PC running slow is not malware. It is that lack of an adequate memory to properly run the version of Windows being used and all the other software being run. Your logs shows the below:
You need at least 3 times this amount of memory. That is you need at least 1 GB of memory.

What program are you using to control all the startup processes and services that you have trapped in MSconfig registry keys?

Most antivirus programs (including Avast) have built-in email scanners. Whether it has a problem scanning Yahoo mail or not, I don't know.

Thanks for replying. I reset msconfig like it said in the read and run me sticky, then changed some things with cc cleaner.

Memory = RAM? I was wondering if that was the problem, but it's been running fine for a couple of years, only really been slow these past few weeks/months. It's sped up a good bit since I went through the windows cleaning procedures thread, but still takes a while to restart/open programs.

So I need another 600ish megabytes of ram? I'll have to see about upgrading that in the near future.

But then you did not read closely enough. The READ & RUN ME stated not to use CCleaner to do this since it improperly uses the MSconfig registry keys.

Yes and that is your problem. As stated, current versions of Window XP cannot run properly with so little RAM. Every time you update software, things change and if you add software then things also change. 384 K was always too little for XP. It was just barely adequate for Windows 2K.

The best thing you could do is to find out what the maximum amount of RAM your PC allows, and put in that much. ;)

Alright, I'll try that then when we get a chance. Thanks for all your help. :)

    You're welcome.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
