Snap, crackle, pop...:-(

Hi All,
Now what? I nuked my PC a while back. Everything has been fine. I realized I haven't watched a DVD since the nuke. My sound is snap, crackle, pop. It makes the films unwatchable. What gives? I checked the audio drivers, & even tried updating them. I get the message that everything is fine, & no better drives could be found. Would a Guru please throw me a bone?

Hi,
I've an older self-built machine: P4, running XP w/SP3. Vid's audio is fine online. I've an ATI graphics card, along w/their multimedia software. In both ATI's & Window's Media Player. My audio is crackling & popping. What is that Spccy app?

Speccy is a free system information tool.

Download and run it - when the scan completes, click 'File', 'Save as Text file', name the report, and save to an easily found location, such as your Desktop.

Be advised: the report will display your IP Address and Windows Product Key. You may delete this information if you so wish.

Then attach the file per iain.t's link.

 

Also have you installed any new software/drivers just before this issue started,if so can you list them for me please.

To find your IP address in the report you need to scroll down to the part that says Network and highlight and delete your ip address.

Well, Hell if I see it. Here's the file. I did have to enable (install?) ATI's DVD player just before playing the movie. Internet movies aren't a problem. It's something w/ATI & Windows Media Player.

PLEASE MAKE A RESTORE POINT PRIOR TO ATTEMPTING THIS FIX
I don't see your IP address either so no worries there. I think you need to uninstall the ATI drivers using Add/Remove Programs, then run Driver Sweeper in *SAFEMODE to totally remove them from your system...

When you open driver sweeper in safemode select all the ATI drivers click *Analyze then click *Clean (run the clean button twice to clear up all residual leftovers). Boot back up in normal mode click out of any *found new hardware* then download the drivers for this card from here...

when finished installing you MUST re-start your machine for the changes to take effect. After that you must up-date your sound card driver to its latest date, if for some reason it will not update, uninstall it in the same way as you did the ATI, though you are looking for *Soundmax Audio drivers ...the newest drivers for the audio card caan be found here...
