    I am getting an error that reads :
    Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

    here are the details of that error :
    szAppName : svchost.exe szAppVer : 5.1.2600.5512 szModName : unknown
    szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 001a61bb

    C:\DOCUME~1\SEUNGA~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER91b1.dir00\svchost.exe.mdmp

    C:\DOCUME~1\SEUNGA~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER91b1.dir00\appcompat.txt

    After this error pops up, I lose sound and when i try to open a mp3 or a video file, it says there is a problem with the sound device.

    Also, I noticed that when I try to open certain malware removers, they simply don't open. I was unable to start MB nor SAS (which were already installed on the computer) even after uninstalling and reinstalling.

    Before I ran some of the anti virus programs, the taskbar would change colors to gray. It doesn't seem to be doing that anymore though.

    I wasn't able to run MB nor SAS, but I was able to follow the rest of the
    steps listed in the stickiked thread.

    Help!!! Thanks!!!!

    You should eventually update your antivirus. AVG Free 8.5 <--- Current version is 9.

    Tell me what this is seen on your desktop?

    • metqxi1u.exe

    Also tell me what you know about these folders? (They may be titled as shown below on the left hand side)

    Also what do you know about KongDisk which I am seeing lots of in your logs??

    Uninstall this outdated Java:

    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
    • Java(TM) 6 Update 15

    Use windows explorer to navigate to the below:

    Rename them to DISinclude the .vir extension and place them back where they belong: C:\Windows\system32\drivers

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    • R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - *{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)
    • R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - *{EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    FileLook::
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\Cat.DB

    File::
    c:\windows\system32\MelonActiveXUninst.exe

    Folder::
    c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\Viewpoint

    DirLook::
    c:\documents and settings\Seung and Ki\Application Data\SecurityPatch
    c:\documents and settings\Seung and Ki\Application Data\GoodFile
    C:\ijji

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      [IMG]

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now go to www.virustotal.com/ and upload the following file for analysis:

    • c:\windows\system32\drivers\Cat.DB

    Now run the new version of TDSSKiller

    Go to TDSSKiller and Download TDSSKiller.zip to your Desktop

    • Extract its contents to your Desktop so that you have TDSSKiller.exe directly on your Desktop and not in any subfolder of the Desktop.
    • Now double click the TDSSkiller.exe file to run it ( if using Vista or Windows 7 do not double click on it but rather, right click and select Run As Administrartor.
    • Allow the application to run and a window will open showing that it is TDSSkiller from Kaspersky
    • Click Start scan
    • It will run rather quickly and will notify you of whether anything is found or not.
    • Follow the instructions to delete/quarantine if asks you what to do when if finds something.
    Whether an infection is found or not, a log file should be created on your C: drive ( or whatever drive you boot from) in the root folder named something like TDSSKiller.2.1.1_27.12.2009_14.17.04_log.txt which is based on the program version # and date and time run. Please attach this log to your next reply. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

    Please also download MBRCheck to your desktop

    • Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
    • It will show a Black screen with some data on it
    • Right click on the screen and select > Select All
    • Press Control+C
    • Open a notepad and press Control+V
    • now please ATTACH that report to this thread

    Try and run both MBAM and SAS in safe mode if not in normal mode. Attach the logs they create if you were successful.

    Reboot your machine and install the most current and up to date version of Java available here at the below link:

    Java Runtime 6

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    Address all of the questions that I asked and let me know how things are running. Don't forget the virustotal results.
