forgotten password for xp and can't get to safe mode t

I want to upgrade my os on two computers, but can't remember password on one and can't get to safe mode to access the cmd, therefore cannot get onto internet and cannot get upgrade, or am I doing this wrong?

 

You won't get help to bypass or circumvent passwords on this forum.

 

Thanks for your reply, im just trying to get back into my old computer and have tried every password I can remember using, or that my wife has used, or my kids, but thanks anyway.

 

You want to upgrade XP to what?

 

According to the Microsoft website I can go to windows 7 at least on this computer, Since I can't get on the other I don't know if it's compatible. This computer is going to be my office computer with all my business records on it. So I need to secure it, I know it's not going to be able to handle 8 or 8.1 so I figured a lesser upgrade should suffice till I can afford a new computer. The other one Ill keep at home and use it for my normal working on learning songs from youtube and printing out setlists for my band and watching tv shows that I never watch in real time.

 

The thing thats bothering me is I don't recall changing the damn password in the first place, Ans I really am curious why it won't go to safe mode, I tap F8 from the moment I start and it just goes straight to the main screen and boots up, must have tried 30 times this morning and every combo of password I could think of to no avail.

You cannot upgrade Windows XP to 7; it needs to be a fresh install.

I misunderstood, or misquoted I was going to follow the instructions, something about custom install because some programs are not compatible. I have the saved file on my desktop, from the analysis. I shall examine the links. thanks for your help.
