Computer crashing issues when playing games.

Hi, I have an issue with my computer constantly crashing when playing any kind of game that gives the video card a little workout. I have to reboot the computer everytime. I mostly play WoW and a few others, such as Battlefield (you can laugh).

I have no issues at all when I'm not gaming. If/when I send an error report, I usually get back a "device driver" or "nvidia driver" causing a stop error.

My computer is over 4 years old, an HP build-to-order. I do not have a Windows XP disc, only the recovery partition.

The computer is currently in a ATX case with 3 case fans and newer BFG 650-watt power supply (old one died).

I am currently using the latest driver for my video card, but I have also tried rolling back to two older drivers. No help at all.

Here is a list of my hardware:

Here's what I would *like* to do:
    1) Fix what I have cheaply (under $200)
    2) Buy a new motherboard/processor combo and simply drop my hard-drive in it.

    Here's what I *don't* want to do:
    1) Spend more than $200 to get this problem fixed
    2) Buy a new computer with Vista in it
    3) Use an illegal copy of XP so I can do #1 on my like-to-do list
    4) Not re-buy XP (can I make a XP disc from my recovery partition?)

I have dealt with this for over a year, and it's getting worse. How have I tolerated it this long?

    Thanks in advance!

    edit:

#3 on my don't-like-to-do list should read: Use illegal copy of XP so I can do #2 on my like-to-do-list. My edit almost sounds confusing :p

I wanted to add my temperature sensor reading in case anyone asks.

    They are as follows:

    Sensor Properties
    Sensor Type Winbond W83627HF
    Sensor Access ISA 290h

    Temperatures
    Motherboard 23 °C (73 °F)
    CPU 50 °C (122 °F)
    Aux 40 °C (104 °F)

    Cooling Fans
    CPU 1815 RPM

    Voltage Values
    CPU Core 1.47 V
    CPU Aux 1.49 V
    +3.3 V 3.42 V
    +5 V 5.21 V
    +12 V 12.16 V
    -12 V -12.20 V
    -5 V -5.35 V
    +5 V Standby 5.14 V
    VBAT Battery 3.47 V

Is that CPU temp above normal?

If yours is a presscot cpu, like my old pc, 50 is o.k

Nvidia drivers seem to be giving a few headaches - it might get you more help if you start another thread on drivers in the driver forum.
From the thread I gave the link to , it was found that contacting the card manufacturer found the best video driver , and appears to stop the grunts.

    Thanks for the replies.

Not sure if my processor is a prescott, but if it isn't, is 50C too high?

Anything on my list of hardware that seems out of whack?

Ram might be a bit slow, is your motherboard socket 478 ? as the 845g seems to support DDR200/DDR266/DDR333 DIMMs - and SupportS 2.5V - Does'nt support ECC memory/Function
I have not found your motherboard , yet, but the chipset, for now.
If you have the manual, it should tell you.
I suggest a memory upgrade might help - to pc 3200/400 fsb- but check-go to crucial site to get a look from their scanner, and it will tell you.
On MSI site it mentions instability with nVidia drivers, and some graphics cards.
If you have not got a rear fan in the base, I would fit one, and 120mm, if it will fit.
If you only want to change the motherboard, Microsoft can be helpful, on telephone, and could allow reinstall of you XP.
