    Hi,

As the title suggests, My PC has recently contracted this virus and it has been the most persistent problem I've ever faced. It does what most malware does: creates hyperlinks from random words, constant flow of ads on pages that shouldn't have ads, clicking on search bars redirects me to pages advertising the fake software and so on and so forth. I've tried a myriad of solutions such as Malware Bytes, Hitman Pro, and system restore (granted it won't even let me do this. Says the restore points are corrupted). I've searched multiple sites and researched the problem and it seems to be a huge deal. I've tried to follow all the registry steps but I simply can't find the keys that people are telling me to find and delete. They don't exist. "Systempro" is consistently on my uninstall programs list and it just won't die. Please help!

I've posted my HijackThis Log as well. Hopefully it helps.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything. Note if you cannot save things in C:\ then just save them to your Desktop. Make sure that you have disable UAC and rebooted first if you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7.

Please follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!

    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:

Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

Just went through the read and run and tried everything. I've attached what I can but I was not able to get an MG Log and TDSS said it could not find anything. It is really hazardous to keep trying to use chrome at this point because of all the ads and hyperlinks. Ran everything and nothing comes up. Systempro is still staring me down. I'm just really stumped at this point.

Please click Start, All Program, Accessories and you will see ( among other things ) a Command Prompt entry.

    • Right click the Command Prompt entry and select Run As Administrator.
      • It is critical that you run it this way.

    • If you do this properly, a command prompt window will open with a title of Administrator Command Prompt.
    • Enter the below commands at the command prompt each followed by the enter key. The bold black are commands. The purple/brown is merely informational.

cd \MGtools <-- this changes to the MGtools folder and the prompt should change to C:\MGtools>
GRK64 <-- this will try to run all one scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.
SN64 <-- this will try to run all one scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.

Now copy just the bold text below to notepad (Do not include any space above the word REGEDIT). Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Now please download OTL by OldTimer.

    • Save it to your desktop.
    • Double-click on the OTL icon on your desktopto run it. (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8 use right-click and select Run as Administrator)
    • Check the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
    • Check the "Standard Output".
    • Change the setting of "Drivers" and "Services" to "All"
    • Copy the text in the code box below and paste it into the [IMG] text-field.
      Code:
      activex
      netsvcs
      drives

    • Now click the [IMG] button.
    • One report will be created:
      • OTL.txt <-- Will be opened

    • Attach OTL.txt to your next message. (How to attach)

Thanks for getting back to me. I tried to attach the log but it's too big for this upload service it seems. Is there anyway other way I can give it to you?

I am not finding System Pro in your log. Let's do this:

Please download SystemLook from one of the links below appropriate for your operating system and save it to your Desktop.
    Download 32 Bit

    Download 64 Bit

    • Double-click SystemLook.exe to run it.
    • Copy the content of the following codebox into the main textfield:
      Code:
      :folderfind
      SystemPro
      :filefind
      SystemPro
      :regfind
      SystemPro

    • Click the Look button to start the scan.
    • When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.
Note: The log can also be found on your Desktop entitled SystemLook.txt

Okay, so the systempro has finally vanished form the uninstall list which I'm very grateful for. My surfing experience is still pretty bad to say the least. I still have hyperlinks on words and clicking sometimes redirects me. I do know that I'm being inflicted with the CompareIt adware though, whuch came in with systempro as far as I know. Any help with this? I appreciate all your support thus far.

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.

    • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator
    • Click on the Scan button.
    • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
    • After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R#].txt) will open in Notepad for review (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
    • The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
    • Attach the logfile to your next next reply.
    • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.

[IMG] Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

Go ahead and fix what ADW found. Are you still having issues?

Ah I really thought cleaning it would do it, but it looks like I'm still being attacked by the compareit adware, as I'm still seeing hyperlinks and I get redirected every few clicks on a page or so. The Ads that blatantly show up on sites like youtube seem to have stopped though.

Not finding any malware. Do you have an AdBlocker installed?

I did have Adblock Plus running, but I've disabled it now. Ran Hitman and Rogue again. Attached the logs. I looked over them myself but nothing seems to be strange on the logs unfortunately.

Your logs are clean. Did you re-enable AdBlock?

I just reset my browser and it seems to have done the trick. I'm no longer getting redirected and the compareit ads seems to be gone. I don't feel like I'm out of the forest yet after all that we've just been through so I'll continue to scan regularly. My only question now is that on the Majorgeeks forum, and only on these pages, I do see some hyperlinks but they're related to Adchoices and don't seem nearly as malicious. Is that just a service you guys are using or is that something I should be trying to get rid of too? This is the first time I've seen my browser without compareit popping up and redirecting me all the time so I just want to make sure.

As I expected, I had spoken too soon. Thought it was safe but I clicked on a sign in button on Youtube and it redirected me to another compareit page. I've since uninstalled chrome and have started using firefox as my main engine. Nothing going wrong so far. I scan and scan again and nothing comes up. I'll update you if and when I run into something again...

    Let me know.

    In the meantime:

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now go to the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
      • Refer to the instructions for your WIndows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
      • What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
      • Then we want you to Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
