I have an old system, Dell 4100 running Windows 2000 Pro. About 6 months ago it started hanging. I assumed that I had a virus. I ran everything that I could find - no virus found (i.e. SpyBot, McAfee, etc.).

I tried running the Dell Diagnostics from their website but since I am not running XP, their program will not run. So, I opened the system and installed a new 80GB hard drive. It froze. Next, I installed two new sticks of 256 MB memory. It froze.

Ok...I'm CHEAP ;) - I do not want to HAVE to purchase another system. I'm looking at the power supply but thought that I'd best stop by here and present the problem before I end up building a new system.

    Thanks for any suggestions,

    When does it freeze?

What's it doing when it freezes?

Does it freeze at the same point each time?

    Did you change any hardware?

Those are a few questions. Any info can help us figure it out.
